Over time, the aging process and the effects of pregnancy can cause breasts to droop or lose their shape. Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape the breasts. After the procedure, patients can expect firmer and more youthful looking breasts.
Breast lift surgery is adapted to fit each patient’s individual needs, but in the most common procedure, Dr. Peterson starts with an anchor shaped incision along the natural contour of the breast. From this incision, Dr. Peterson can sculpt excess skin and tissue to reposition the nipple and lift the breast into a new, more youthful position. Dr. Peterson concludes the procedure by pulling the skin snugly around the new nipple and then closing the incisions. Mastopexy can be performed using either a local or general anesthesia and is usually done on an outpatient basis.
After the Surgery
Following the procedure at Athena Clinic in Hawaii, an elastic bandage and a surgical bra are applied to the breasts while they heal. This bandage can be removed after a few days while the surgical bra stays on up to several weeks until swelling subsides. Most breast lift patients are able to return to work in two weeks.
