Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure designed to remove puffiness and sagging around the eyes, as well as undereye baggage. It can erase years of aging and give the eyes a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Dr. Peterson begins by creating small incisions along the natural creases of the upper eyelid, and/or directly under the lower eyelashes. Through the incisions, Dr. Peterson removes excess fat, skin, and muscle tissue. Once finished, he closes the incisions, leaving a smoother, tighter contour.
After the surgery, ointment will be applied to the eyelids and they will be bandaged. The eyes will feel somewhat tight and sore, and medication may be prescribed to alleviate some of the discomfort. The head should be kept elevated for several days. Application of a cold compress minimizes swelling and bruising. The sutures are removed within a week of the surgery. Most patients can return to work in seven to ten days, but must take care to protect the eyes from harmful contact and irritants.
