About Injectables

Injectables are highly popular due to their minimal downtime, fast-appearing results, and temporary but substantial effects. Under the expert care of Dr. Peterson and the Athena Clinic team, our patients experience benefits like:

  • Softened Signs of Aging: Certain injectables, such as our neuromodulators and dermal fillers, can reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkles, creases, and fine lines.
  • Sharpened Jawline: Kybella can help reduce diet-resistant fat beneath the chin, eliminating the appearance of a double chin and restoring a sharper, more defined jawline.
  • Restored Volume: Our injectable filler treatments can restore a fuller and more plump appearance by restoring volume to areas experiencing hollowing.
  • Lasting Results: Injectable treatments produce long-lasting results that range from several months to over a year.
  • Minimally Invasive Treatment: Injectables do not require incisions or general anesthesia.
  • Minimal Downtime: Most patients are able to return to their daily routines immediately after their appointment, with minimal disruption.
  • Customizable Results: We design each treatment plan around your specific concerns, goals, and anatomy, ensuring personalized results that align with your ideal aesthetic.

Candidates

Candidates typically include either men or women who are interested in enhancing their facial aesthetics through minimally invasive and nonsurgical techniques. Patients interested in addressing premature signs of aging, such as wrinkles and facial volume loss, see impressive results with these procedures. Those interested in simply rejuvenating their appearance or looking to enhance their overall facial balance may also make suitable candidates.

Anyone interested in our selection of injectables should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding what they can achieve. An injection specialist will determine each patient’s eligibility during their personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

Before undergoing your injections, you will need to meet with one of our injection experts for a personal consultation. This consultation helps us get to know you and formulate a treatment plan around your concerns. We will ask you about your medical history, concerns, and treatment goals, and evaluate your skin/targeted areas.

We will use these details to select the best injectable for your concerns. We will explain how the chosen injectable works and let you know what to expect.

To schedule this consultation, please contact us online or call (808) 944-8551.

Preparation

Before your procedure, you may be advised to:

  • Avoid using harsh skincare products, such as chemical peels, exfoliants, retinoids, or retinols
  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Stay hydrated
  • On the day of the appointment itself, arrive with clean skin, free of any skincare products or makeup

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are treatments that interact with neurotransmitters to relax the facial muscles. These minimally invasive treatments stop the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for dynamic facial movements that lead to the development of wrinkles. Neuromodulators not only reduce the appearance of pre-existing lines but also prevent new signs of aging from forming when treatments are consistent. (1) We offer Botox®, Xeomin®, and Daxxify®.

Botox is the most well-known neuromodulator, with results that start to appear after 3-5 days and last around 3-4 months.

Xeomin is similar to Botox, but it has no accessory proteins—non-toxic proteins that help protect the botulinum toxin. These are thought to cause patients to build a tolerance to the injectable, making it less effective over time. (2)

Daxxify offers longer-lasting results than both Botox and Xeomin. With a peptide-based stabilizer, patients can experience results that can last up to 6 months or longer. (3)

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like injectables that can help address visible signs of aging and restore lost volume. At our practice, we offer both hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite fillers.

  • Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that is known for its ability to attract and retain moisture. HA-based fillers are quite popular due to their low allergic risk and immediate results. (4)
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite: Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) can restore natural-looking facial volume by stimulating the production of collagen. It works by providing immediate structural support while encouraging the body to gradually produce its own collagen around the microspheres.

The dermal fillers we offer include:

  • Juvederm®: Juvederm is a collection of HA-based dermal fillers that add volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. It works immediately and continues to support collagen production over time, making it ideal for lips, cheeks, and smile lines.
  • Belotero®: Belotero is an HA-based filler that is lightweight and smooth to address more delicate concerns. Belotero can effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines in various parts of the face, such as vertical lip lines, crow’s feet, or forehead lines.
  • Restylane®: Restylane is a family of different HA-based dermal fillers designed to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and define facial features. This filler is ideal for treating the nasolabial folds, lips, cheeks, and chin.
  • Radiesse®: Radiesse is a CaHA-based dermal filler that is ideal when enhancing the appearance of the jawline, hands, or lower face. It provides immediate lift and volume while stimulating the body’s natural collagen for longer-lasting results.

Kybella®

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that removes stubborn fat beneath the chin and jawline. The fat in this area, also known as submental fat, can be difficult to address on one’s own and often contributes to the appearance of a double chin. Kybella’s main active ingredient is deoxycholic acid. When we administer this into the targeted area, it destroys the local fat cells, allowing the body to clear them naturally. (5) Once the body removes these fat cells, they cannot return.
