Preparation

Effectively preparing for facial balancing treatments allows you to have a smooth procedure and optimize results. Dr. Peterson advises you to:

  • Avoid certain blood-thinning medications and supplements
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours before your treatment
  • Postpone chemical peels, laser treatments, or facial waxing
  • Avoid high-intensity workouts on the day of your treatment
  • Arrive with a clean face, free of skincare products and makeup
  • Stay well-hydrated leading up to your appointment
  • Limit your exposure to direct sunlight

BOTOX®

Botox is an injectable neuromodulator that reduces fine lines and wrinkles for smoother-looking skin. By temporarily relaxing the underlying facial muscles, this treatment effectively minimizes dynamic lines around the mouth, nose, and eyes caused by repetitive expressions. (2) Dr. Peterson will begin your treatment by cleaning your skin and examining your facial expressions to identify and mark the targeted muscles. Utilizing a very fine needle, he carefully delivers small, diluted amounts of Botox into the designated muscles, repeating the process across all targeted areas. For patients seeking extended results, Dr. Peterson also provides Daxxify®, an alternative formulation that lasts approximately four to six months.

Dermal Fillers

Designed to temporarily increase volume in facial tissues, dermal fillers are FDA-approved treatments that address wrinkles and folds surrounding the mouth and nose. Beyond volume restoration and treating wrinkles, dermal fillers are also used for facial contouring and sculpting, such as defining the jawline and chin, as well as under-eye rejuvenation to treat hollowed tear troughs. Additionally, these treatments assist in acne scar reduction by promoting collagen stimulation and improving overall skin hydration. Dr. Peterson provides several dermal filler options, including Juvederm Ultra XC®, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC®, Voluma®, Belotero®, Restylane Lyft®, and Volbella®, selecting the most suitable choice based on the targeted treatment areas. To begin the procedure, Dr. Peterson will cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream to ensure comfort. After marking precise target zones, he uses a fine needle and a linear threading technique to inject the filler, repeating the steps across all necessary areas to achieve balanced results.

Kybella®

Designed to target submental fullness, Kybella is a chin contouring treatment that slims and defines the area by addressing the appearance of a “double chin.” Dr. Peterson will begin your procedure by cleaning your skin, applying topical anesthetic to your treatment areas, and mapping out the injection sites. He will then utilize a fine needle to administer the injection into the subcutaneous fat of the chin, achieving a balanced and contoured result.

Recovery

After your Botox treatment, you can immediately return to your daily routine without any required downtime. Any mild redness that develops typically fades within an hour. For the first 24 hours, please refrain from alcohol consumption, strenuous physical activity, and any rubbing or massaging of the face.

Dermal filler treatments also require minimal downtime, but Dr. Peterson does recommend taking these easy for one to two days. Bruising and swelling typically reach their peak on the second day and fade over the course of a week. Avoid heavy lifting, extreme heat, and alcohol for at least 48 hours post-treatment. To help manage ongoing swelling, you can apply cold compresses and sleep with your head elevated to improve circulation.

Your Kybella recovery will look a little bit different; you will require two to four days of downtime with residual firmness potentially lasting up to two weeks. After four weeks, your numbness and firmness will subside, and visible results will start to progressively emerge. Use ice packs or cold compresses during the first 48 hours to reduce discomfort and swelling. You must also sleep with your head elevated, avoid strenuous activities, and avoid massaging or poking the treated area.

Results

Your dermal fillers and Botox treatments will reduce the appearance of forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and nasolabial folds and improve the contours of your cheeks and jawline. Your Kybella treatment will address submental fullness and diminish the appearance of a “double chin,” allowing your chin to appear more contoured and balanced with the rest of your facial features.
